OnlinePopstar In The News!
The website has been the subject of a feature article in The Northwest Karaoke and Live Entertainment Guide, published by Bayview Publishing in Seattle, WA. An OnlinePopstar press release is also featured on the NW Karaoke website at http://www.nwkaraokeguide.net/.
Even more exciting than this very significant regional spotlight is the phone call OnlinePopstar received from NBC (WCAU) in Philadelphia. Patty Hartman of NBC-Universal contacted the offices of OnlinePopstar to discuss her interest in doing a feature story on OnlinePopstar.com and the advent of the relatively new phenomenon of people becoming famous online.
OnlinePopstar.com is a niche website in that we are the only online karaoke contest to offer participation to karaoke clubs and venues worldwide. Club winners will have their winning performances posted online to compete with other winners from around the globe! The contest culminates in a head-to-head contest between the online CyberStar and the ClubStar champion.
Another novel feature is that OnlinePopstar contest judges are entertainment industry professionals, who all work with stars in the music business.
OnlinePopstar is exquisitely pleased with this recent development and we're so excited about the attention our members will receive as a result of this news coverage. We are also looking forward to a huge upsurge in contestant applications for the online karaoke contest.
More news will be forthcoming as the air-date approaches.

Give Some Lovin' To The King...You Must Be An Elvis Fan
Each Superstars fans are a breed unto themselves. Any seasoned DJ can tell you who a person idolizes just by sizing them up for a minute or two. I most certainly have noticed certain shared qualities in the fans of many different Stars. As the site administrator of OnlinePopstar.com, an online karoake site, I listen to karaoke versions of songs by these legendary artists performed by some of their most avid fans!
We have an online singer's forum called CyberStars where a lot of discussion takes place on favorite singers, music styles, and general chit-chat. From these discussions I have gleaned some very keen, and often humorous, insight.
Below, I will profile the fans of Tom Jones, Jimmy Buffet, Elton John, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, and Bon Jovi. These guys are some heavy hitters in the music industry and have some of the most faithful fans in the world.
Let me preface my profiles by stating the obvious; the fans are as wonderful and as distinct as the artists themselves and my generalizations may be just that: general.
However, my years in the karaoke industry have allowed me to meet a great many very passionate music fans. Like everyone else, I can spot an Elvis fan at 50 yards away; unlike everyone else, I can also easily pick a Van Morrison fan out in any crowd (he's usually not quite sober, of Irish or Scottish descent, wearing a scarf.)
I will attempt a profile with a twist; not only will I attempt to cite some commonalities in the fans of these singers, I will also add what I believe would be their beverages of choice!
Tom Jones fans are in their 60s and have steadfastly clung to their 1970s culture. No slaves to current fashion, the women have meticulous bouffant hairstyles, wear ornate displays of cosmetics, and cleavage-baring two-piece pant suits. The men still sport their jaunty sideburns and their gold-chain entangled chest hair is displayed by the open-front silk shirts they wear. These fans have all been divorced 2.8 times. They are rarely wealthy, but never poor. The money that they should spend on family therapy is instead spent in Vegas. Tom Jones fans can be spotted sipping Seagram's 7 & 7.
Jimmy Buffet fans are in their 40s and 50s. They were Hippy Wannabes in the 70s, they bought the Free Love concept but lacked the idealism then that they now display so fervently in their numerous humanitarian works. Usually enjoying life from the upper-economic status, these fans have taken a laid-back approach to life and have surprisingly few wrinkles. Most Buffet fans are college educated. Many have become teachers and professors as they need to have full enjoyment of their summer vacations. Collectively known as "Parrotheads," these hawaiian shirted, flip-flopping kids can most always be seen with Margaritas in both hands.
Elton John has a lot of gay fans. He has many more straight fans. Sir Elton fans defy any demographic for age as his musical genious has garnered love from people since the early 70s. The next generation of his fans are listening to him sing during their Disney movies. His most avid fans are all rich and famous, which is a good thing as your average person really can't afford his concert tickets. Elton John fans drink anything from Chardonnay to chocolate milk in sippy cups. Elton John fanatics do NOT drink; they are working a 12 Step program.
Billy Joel fans are the blue-collar working-class realists. In their 30s and 40s, his fans relate to his humble beginnings and, like him, they are tough on the outside with hearts of buttah. No matter what socio-economic status, Joel fans are all down-to-earth; it ain't pretty, but it's real. You can spot Billy Joel fans in a crowd wearing baggy pants,t-shirts, and baseball caps. If the crowd is devoid of Joel fans, it's because it's a beautiful boating day and they're all out on the water. Joel fans prefer Long Island Iced Tea.
Bruce Springsteen fans are the blue-collar working-class dreamers. Also in their 30s and 40s, Springsteen fans are idealists. They believe that dreams come true and, despite quiet inferiority complexes, tend to be tenacious in whatever they do. They very rarely divorce. Many are self-employed. Springsteen fans tend to be quiet loners until they gather at one of his frenzied concerts; this is when their collective pain-spattered idealism erupts into cataclysmic joy in the emotional abandon that is reflected from their hero. All Bruce Springsteen fans can be spotted wearing too-tight Levis with boots. The obvious choice of beverage is a Bud.
Bon Jovi fans are female. They are those 30-something girls who are stuck in the 80s; the crowning glory of their tanning booth tone is their Frost-N-Tip hair, teased out to glorious heights and secured with 16 ounces of Aqua-Net hairspray. Most of his fans smoke cigarettes and chew gum at the same time. Bon Jovi fans believe his lyrics and are modern-day Cinderellas, waiting for their Cowboy to ride in on his steel horse and rescue them from a never-ending adolescense. They tend to be overly-friendly touchy-feely type people; superficially nice, but never mean-spirited. A Bon Jovi fan will always try to get a guy to buy her a Fuzzy Navel.
There you have it. A concise fan profile of some very legendary artists. I have presented my thoughts and ideas as would any decent Billy Joel fan; I gotta tell it like it is!
If anyone reads this and wants to yell at me, come on over to CyberStars. I'm tough, I can take it. In any event, come visit me at OnlinePopstar.com for a rockin' good time!

Rock Star II - Audition Experience
I attended the second audition at T.T. The Bear's in Boston as moral support for my own personal Rock Star, my main squeeze, my man.
The auditions were to go from 10:00-4:00 and so we planned to arrive just after noon. We got there around 1:00 and took our places at the end of the line.
Let me tell you, the Boston auditioners had to be the most driven, tenacious, and toughest people in the world to stand outside in frigid conditions with wind like knife blades for over 2 hours just for a 60 second chance for stardom!
After an hour and a half we were the next group of 10 to be let in! Oh joy, oh HEAT! To my utter horror, we were told that ONLY auditioners were allowed in the place, moral support people were not!
Thank God for the warm and cozy coffee shop across the street from TT's! It was here that another "moral support reject" and I jacked ourselves up on coffee for the next hour and a half waiting for our Stars to complete their auditions.
Here's the skinny on the audition process:
Be prepared to sing at least three songs, but never will you get the opportunity to do that. You will be given approximately 1 minute to do your thing. You can go a cappella (recommend this!) or bring your karoake disc, musical instrument, or an accompainist.
Once you get into the audition area, someone will take your picture with a digital camera, you'll be given an envelope with your contestant number on it, and you'll wait your turn...
Next, you'll be called...The producer will tell you to "Rock It!" and so you will.
Your audition will be videotaped, to be watched later by the producers. This fact may give you some solace when you realize that your audition isn't getting a lot of attention from the judges. (Some folks reported that the judges were walking in and out of the room, on the phone, doodling, fidgeting, and yawning!)
The day after the auditions is when the "powers that be" will give your audition tapes a LOOK-SEE. This is when they decide who will be called in for a "call-back" the next day. In Boston, I overheard one of the production managers talking with the owners of the coffee shop that they'd be back on Sunday, 03/05 from 12-4 doing auditions (the call-backs!)
My educated guess is that if you don't hear from anyone by, say, 11:30 p.m. on the day after your audition, you're probably not going to...but, hey, who am I to say? I'm just a moral support person.
So, we wait. ...tick tick tick tick tick...

Web promotion: O.J.T.-ing it!
I spent sooo much time and effort to learn to design the site, then spent hours building it, plotting it out, and tweaking it... There! "I built it and they will come," was my happy final thought.
HA! My simplistic approach was very soon to be revealed to me as a flight of blind ignorance. Since that time (3 long months ago) I have been diligently promoting OnlinePopstar, ever cautious of crossing the line from sharing information over to the "dark side" of spamming innocent people! What is okay for informational purposes on one site is heartily frowned upon elsewhere. No one has yelled at me yet, and I'm diplomatically charging ahead to get the word out that OnlinePopstar is alive and well and, well, an itsy bit lonely.
I mean, site visits have risen over 300% in the last 3 months; that's good, isn't it? I really wish that I knew for sure what to look for in regard to successful website growth. If anyone can tell me what constitutes average, above average, or (ack!) sluggish website progress, please do tell. You'll have a very eager and attentive listener in me!
So, I've found yet another outlet for shameless self-promotion. If you'd like to see my crafty little ads on AdPost.com, please click on the link below. If not to check out my ads, you really should see this site, anyhow. It's an amazing world-wide site where you can post FREE classified ads in myriad categories to bargain hunters everywhere.
(please, oh please, oh pleeeease?)
